2014 REF results

The REF is the process that reviews the quality of research in Universities in the UK. The results of the 2014 REF were announced on Dec 18th. Newcastle’s Clinical Medicine was ranked 4th for research intensity – a reflection of overall quality, and ahead of both Oxford and Cambridge, Newcastle’s Faculty of Medical Sciences overall research quality was ranked 8th among UK Medical Schools and top in England outside the “Golden Triangle” – equal to UCL; and Neuroscience, Psychiatry & Psychology overall research quality was ranked in the top 10 in the UK and in the top 5 for research impact. Note should also be made of the continuing stellar climb of Northumbria University, which on current trajectory is heading for a top 20 position in the next REF and on Durham University’s continuing excellent results.
